The Metropolitan Special Constabulary reprinted the book, “The Specials” by Ronald Seth to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the Special Constabulary in 2006. The final few copies now remain and are on sale, with all proceeds from sales going to the Police Memorial Trust, an incredibly important cause recognising those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.
We are pleased to announce that some proceeds have already been handed to the Police Memorial Trust. In addition, as all publication costs have already been covered, all proceeds from future sales will be going to the Trust.
Ronald Seth’s book is regarded as the definitive history of the Special Constabulary. It discusses the origins of peace-keeping prior to the formation of the Special Constabulary in 1831 and gives a vivid description of the duties of Special Constables up to 1959 when the book was first published. A chapter was added to bring the book up to date as of the anniversary.
A limited edition of 1,500 copies was produced and there are no plans to reprint any more.
This is a final chance to own a definitive piece of Special Constabulary history, with a hint of the 21st century to complete the picture.
The price is only £3.00 (plus postage and packing of £2.99) per copy.
